  • Hey Thomas I'd like to know the rest of the story on how the Happy Jack ran aground off of Ponce PR. I heard something else about it on the Jack Williams facebook page; but that's all I know. Did the Captain get re-leaved of his command? Fill me in on it when you get a chance?

  • EN3 here. Was member of the Decommissioning crew. Onboard from 1994-1996. Went through the grounding in Ponce, PR.

  • Flew out to meet the Happy Jack Williams right after Christmas 1989. My first ship after boot camp. The Happy Jack was coming home from a 6 month cruise in the Persian Gulf and I caught up with her in Rota Spain. Only sailed with her a little about a year-and-a-half before moving on the A-School.3439408516?profile=original
  • Was my first command after boot camp, stationed onboard her from 82-86. One of the best dam bunch of guy's that I ever sailed with. A Med cruise, IO, North Alantic, and then another Med/Westpac, with a stop over in Thailand and P.I. Then to be the first ship in over 40 years to meet with Communist China navy at sea and do a pass and review.
All in all I became a bluenose, shellback, went through the Suez, and Panama canel, This is as good as it gets for your first 4 year in the Navy.
