USS Plumas County (LST-1083) was an LST-542-class tank landing ship in the United States Navy. Unlike many of her class, which received only numbers and were disposed of after World War II, she survived long enough to be named. On 1 July 1955, all LSTs still in commission were named for US counties or parishes; LST-1083 was given the name Plumas County, after Plumas County, California.

  • I too was on it  when it left Long Beach in February 61 on my way to Bargers Point Hawii.  Rode it to Pearl Harbor.  Didn't know aat the time it was on it's way to decomissioning.

  • We were part of the decommissioning crew.

Left Long Beach I believe in Feb. 61 and had to make 2 trips to Subic Bay Before we Decommissioned her.

I wasn't on her very long but she was the favorite of the 3 ships I served on
