I

I was with the ACM Department (Sled Crew) at HM-14 from 1984 to 1987. Was supposed to make a Wespac Cruise with the USS Tripoli but ended up going up and down the California coast and then live on a berthing barge while they repair the ship (building 10 as we called the ship because it had a hard time leaving the pier). Then the following year we were supposed to go to Nova Scotia and got re-routed to the Red Sea to sweep mines. Then a crew of 10 got volunteered to get re-routed to Saudi Arabia with no helos or sleds. We stopped at NAS Sig and picked up a C-5 with a crew (newbees) from HM-12, some RH 53D's and a few MK 105 sleds also from HM-12. We operated out of a Saudi Navy base and the helos flew out of a Saudi Air Force Base. Meanwhile they berthed us at a Hotel in Saudi and fed us good. Then in Aug 87 I made chief and was transferred to TAW-5 out of Milton, Florida. Never made a west pac or was able to go to Nova Scotia (the detailer lied to me... ha ha ha)
