Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 4 (HSC-4) is a helicopter squadron of the United States Navy established in 1952 as Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 4 (HS-4). HS-4 was commissioned on 30 June 1952 at U.S. Naval Auxiliary Landing Field, Imperial Beach, California, equipped with the Sikorsky HO4S-3. On 29 March 2012, HS-4 was recomissioned as HSC-4.

Looking for connections with shipmates from Viet Nam era HS-4 Black Knights.
I joined HS-4 in 1965 as an AXN out of AFU-A School in Memphis, and qualified for Aircrew duty. We deployed to WESTPAC on the USS Yorktown, CVS-10, in "66 for 11 months, where HS-4 stayed aboard the Yorktown, flying "plane guard" for air ops, and some SAR missions on Yankee and Dixie stations in the South China Sea. As the intensity of air strike ops escalated that year our rescue mission activity did as well, so we placed small detachments of SAR crews onboard CVAs like the Ranger and the Enterprise as they rotated into the region to get our combat rescue ops closer to their strike mission flight paths, and so we could cover ejections over both water and jungle. Those missions got a little intense...I've even been told we set some "rescue records" that year, (though we were too busy to notice at the time)!
Though probably few remaining HS-4 shipmates are left from that era, I'd really like to hear from anyone!
