Anyone have memories of being a filed medic or hopital corpsman USn on the MarineCorps Air to Ground Combat Training Center at Twentynine Palms Califiornia? From Boot in Orlando 69 to Bainbridge, MD, Dam Neck VA Training, Yokosuka Japan and the Sea of Japan Mig Watch returned via Equator Shellback now and toured, Australia, New Zealand, to homeport San Diego and into the Yards at Long Beach all aboard the USS Mahan DLG-11. Transferred to USS Robison DDG-12 for the Next three Tours to Vietnam lots of carrier watches, yards in Sasebo, much time in Subic Bay and Quang Tri watching at Vietnam's DMZ. Was part of the four ships that took part of "Into the Lions Den" Haiphong Harbor Night Raid. Honorable Discharge for Treasure Island, and began a career in Silicon Valley. Been in Northern Cal ever since. Now in Salinas. My commander Captain on the Robi became CNO Zumalts right hand man after Vietnam.
From San Francisco... Served with Fighter Squadron 24 stationed at Miramar Naval Air Station - Fightertown USA. Deployed WESTPAC/Vietnam on the USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31) in 1967 and the USS Hancock (CVA-19) in 1968/69 and again in 1969/70
Served 88 -92 USS Dubuque LPD -8. Made BT3

Inlisted in Long Beach Ca. Aug 1958 NTC San Diego, first ship USS Merrick
AKA 97 2 west pac cruises. Transferred to USS Plumas County LST 1083 ,skeleton crew for decommissioning in Sasebo, got to Sasebo and we had to make 2 runs to Subic Bay to pick up a marine air group.
By the time we finally got her decommissioned all our orders had been changed
and I went aboard the Coral Sea for my final 11 months

Greg..Interesting you should mention the Saudis. As a young YN2/YN1, I was stationed on the staff at RTC from 72 to 76 and worked at the Saudi Det as their administator in 74 and 75. They were an interesting group with an unusual culture. We nearly had a nationally recognized incident when a Saudi Wahkeil (def: Chief) hit a Saudi Recruit across the upper back with the butt of an M-1 rifle one day on the roadway in front of the R-4 Building. Problem was it was a Friday around 11:30 when all the guests where arriving for that day's graduation pass and review.

RTC NTC fall 76 to spring of 77, along side the Royal Saudis. Co 006 CC Georgiani . Interesting guys those Saudis. Had a suprise meeting with a group of guys with salt and pepper aguletts across the bridge, very bad attitudes! Graduated RTC NTC along side our Saudis Goose Step!. Attended NRMC BALBOA Class C Hospital Corps School. Graduated May 1977. Strahan are you out there? Napier? Was stationed at Marine Corps Air to Ground Combat Training Center in Mojave Desert, as a field corpsman, BAS, Military Ward, ED. Live fire exercises and several other adventures for three years plus HM3/AD/USN. Honorable Discharge. James Bentz? are you out there and well? Cross Rated to National Regestry of EMT's. Graduate Paramedic. Civilian Field Medic 32 years , total time of service as a field medic 36 years. Wounded in civilian ems service while serving, no brag just happened. 10 percent disablity. Current Status: Civilan Medc acitive in Service Pittsburg Co Oklahoma/ Verteran USN Hospital Corps. Yes "Cold War Vet", post Vietnam by a few months time.
