I was assigned as a second mechanic in Patrol Squadron 8 (VP-8) at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland in April 1963. We had just got the new P-3A Orion patrol ASW planes when the USS Thresher disappeared. We flew surveillance missions for over a month looking for debris from the sub. All to no avail sadly.
