I'd like to hear more about the fire and crash on the "Sara". I had a friend from A-school who was AB on flight deck. Could you give more details such as date and location ?

We also had a bad flight deck fire on the Saratoga when an A-4 pilot landed on a full flight deck. Several lives

were lost and many aircraft were lost.

While watching the file I caught a quick view of DD-851.
That was the USS Rupertus. she sailed for the Far East arriving on Yankee Station in the Gulf of Tonkin in July 1967, with Forrestal (CVA-59) when a series of explosions temporarily disabled the giant carrier on 29 July Rupertus maneuvered to within 20 feet of the crippled ship and remained alongside for a period of 3 hours assisting in fighting fires cooling magazines and rescuing personnel thrown into the sea.
