One of my most fond memories on Long Beach occured in the I.O., not sure of date but around when the Isralies retook thier airliner at Entebbe. The SPS-12 Radar had blown a fuze aloft and OS2 David Cowan and I voulenteered to go aloft and replace it. We went up the stick at the crack of dawn, sea state of 1if that, just making headway. That wes before saftey equipment was even thought of, all you had during the accent was your hands. Once we got up to the SPS-12 platform and replaced the fuze, we took an extra 15 minutes to admire the view. The sea was like beaten copper, a cloudless sky, and no noise except the breeze thru the rigging.
