After 10 years of marriage, a wife asked her husband to describe how good a wife she had been, and to give her a rating, so she could reflect on her performance. He put down the newspaper he had been reading, sighed then looked up at her for a while...then said:"You're an A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K."She asks: "What does that mean?"He said:"Your Adorable, Beautiful, Cute, Delightful, Elegant, Foxy, Gorgeous and Hot."She smiled happily and said: Oh, that's so lovely. That's a great story. When we were in school the military draft was still in place. I decided to take control of my own destiny by enlisting. I went to the Air force recruiter first because my father was in the AF during WW II. The waiting list was long so I went to the Navy recruiter where there was no wait list. I was told there were 2 year Navy reserve enlistments but again there was a list of people waiting. If I signed up for 4 years active and two as reserve I could go in right away. Now that I look back I think the recruiter was not completely honest as I found many new sailors that only had a two year active commitment. Too late by then so I just made the best of it. It turned out to be the best second choice I've ever made. No regrets

Thanks for sharing. Your service predates my own by a few years but I knew a few airdales that served on the Forrestal when it was homeported in Norfolk. Mostly Aviation Boatswains mates from the flight deck.
