Our Captain was a "Jack" Magee.  He was a real fire ball.  He would offer to have our big, fat ol' REPAIR SHIP aid in any fire missions against the VC if needed.  We called him GQ JACK.  He was a good skipper.

So you rode the train? It passes right through Wasilla.  Then that tunnel through the mountain to get to Whittier.  Been all over but not everywhere. Alaska is a big place.  I  been here 25 years and still haven't been all through it.

What part of Alaska did you visit? was it just a cruise up through South East and there abouts or did you come farther Nother and see Denali?

I see you have a picture of a "Capt. Magee"  What was his full name?  We had a Capt Magee on Hector too.  Just want to see if he is the same one.

I don't recall having to ride in cattle cars, but I do remember it was very hot. The Cunyngham was there for shake down cruse following a period in dry dock in Portsmouth, Va. I don’t remember the exact date but I think it was after the second Mediterranean Cruise. The Cunynghan made three trips to the Mediterranean and 3 or 4 to the Caribbean area.
