Just back from ACVA reunion 2009

Posted on June 3, 2009 at 6:00pm 2 Comments

Hey Everyone,

I just returned from my first Assault Craft Veterans Association (ACVA) reunion. It was held May 21-23. I wrote a blog in March saying, "the time is now for reunions." I know now how true this is. If any of you have a chance to go to a reunion for your ship, crew, or group, do it. You won't be sorry! I was able to spend some time with Sailors that had served during WW-II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and other military operations. Our group was hosted by Assault Craft… Continue

Time for Reunions is Now!

Posted on March 18, 2009 at 3:18pm 0 Comments

Greetings Everyone,

I want to share a little thought with you today. On March 10th I posted a notice of the Assault Craft Veterans reunion in San Diego in May. I have wanted to go to other reunions this group had, but it seemed that I always didn't have the time or money to go.

In preparing for this reunion, I thought I would try to get in touch with as many members from my original boat crew (LCU-1481) as possible, in the hope that they would attend and I could renew old… Continue

He was a Joker!

Well here it is almost one full month into the new year and I am still looking for some friends to sign up for Idaho Navy Vets command. Some of the time, I think it is hard to get anyone interested in participating. Do you think that goes back to the old "don't volunteer for anything" ? I have a couple of friends that live close to my home town that still haven't looked into this wonderful website yet. The few of you that have read my blogs and posted comments, know about my late Navy buddy… Continue

Thoughts of the Holidays

Posted on January 8, 2009 at 10:18am 0 Comments

Greetings to all! Hope everyone survived the holidays, since it seems everyone gets a little blue during this time. Actually, it kind of got to me a little this year. My wife and I were out doing some shopping at our local mall in Idaho Falls in early December. Almost every year we stop at the Hickory Farms shop and order a gift pack of meats and cheeses to send to my old Vietnam buddy Steve Nelting. As some of you may have read in my blog, Steve passed away in January of 2008. As Angela and I… Continue

Greetings to All!

I added a new command for Assault Craft Veterans, you can use the link to the website lcusailors. This is a group that I am in the process of joining. They are going to have a reunion in San Diego in May (21-24) in 2009. If anyone wants to join, you can find the information on the website. Also, I added a new command for Idaho Navy Vets. This had not been approved yet. If it is approved, I invite anyone that lived in Idaho or is an Idaho resident to join. I hope to get a… Continue

Too bad to hear that folks think we're somehow competing with anyone. We just want to reunite Vets and let them share their memories.

Kelly, Just  found your web site, was on 1619 January 1968 thru December 1968. Asst craftmaster and Quartermaster/signalman.  I designed and had the flying bridge put on in March because I got tired of being wet and cold and the added steel for protetion, looks like it stayed on after I left along with the twin 50's. it was a great boat and crew during Tet, worked hard, played hard, Hauled a lot of tonage. 155mm & 8" to go

Thanks, Kelley. I'm relatively new to Idaho (only since 1990), but the Navy brought us here, and I'm glad it did.
