Thanks for the friendship. When my own mother was quite upset when she learned back in 1970 that I was heading off to Submarine School and for the same reasons as you mother. I was actually stationed there in Groton from 70 to my discharge in 72, I worked at EB till they sent me to IBM in Manassas, VA to learn the Q5 Sonar system. I remained at EB for about a month before accepting an offer for a job at IBM. Left Groton in 77 and have been in VA since.
I was on the Subase at Groton 4 times, the 1st was BESS, I dropped for environmentally unadapatable - actually it was because my mother was having fits about me going on a sub so soon after the Scorpion and the Threasher - it could have been 30 years after and it would have been too soon in mom's mind. So I went on to be a surface warrior and did three more tours at Groton. I even retired from the Navy on that base.
Welcome aboard! May you have Fair Winds and Following Seas. I was at Groton in 77 at NUMI, left there in August.
