I was on her for the Boston drydock trip. coldest this Alabama boy had ever been. I was in the hangerbay getting a coke when we ran aground. Scared me half to death. I was 17 at the time. I have alot of grate times and grew up alot on that ship. It is realy good to think back on those days. I was in V-2 Division from 1972 - 1975. I did not have the honer of working with Capt. Davis but remember him fondly.

Dave did you make the trip to Boston for dry dock, that is where we were headed up through Cape Hatteras,,,,bad trip, lost POV'S & yellow gear vehicles off the flight deck, POV'S that individuals were alowed to take at their own risk, wiped off the flight deck from waves breaking over the flight deck...lost one vehicle(a chevy vet I believe, must have been an officers, didn't know many enlisted that could afford one of those) before we even left,, it fell off the lift the crane was picking up,,,, some had family members on board for the trip,, they got sick as dogs too....most had never been on a ship,,let alone a trip through Hatteras in November...great times....will never forget them........

Yeah, I thought that trip was comical, supposedly pulled out of P'cola to avoid the hurricane and ran right into, don't know if you remember Willis, he was a second class air traffic controller, he was sick as a dog....but even worse on the trip up through cape hatteras, he carried a garbage can around under his arm for about three days that trip...........loved both my tours on Lady Lex
