Actually, after a bit more weathering, I like this finished version best. In reality, the original sub had smaller numbers on the sail. The company that had the original mold, Lindberg, made errors in the design which are hard to correct including the large numbers on the sail. I could have eliminated them but I did eliminate the rocket and deck gun, which were not on the real sub. The date that I placed on the stand is the date she was commissioned. I used black on the clear bridge piece that came with the model as the original had no clear bridge. I suppose I could have repainted the whole sail gray but I already had the decal on when I thought of it, so I guess the black is better than a clear plastic piece as it goes better with the other black on the submarine.
