Sorry, I do not have a photo of the plane I was on, HOWEVER, I am building a model of it, and it will be accuratly numbered as I sent to the Australian Air Force Museum and got the records department and they sent me the plane's, registration numbers.  It will be built as a "mobile" and will have the rear door fluttering away from the airplane.

Yes, I have seen a DeHaviland Caribou since then, as we had one come to the Elmendorf Air Show a few years ago and I sat in the same spot I sat on that flight.  My son was with me and I explained all about that flight.

You can read of my flight on that day in my blog story, "Just getting to the ship is HALF the fun!".  It is, as ALL my stories are, true to the best of my recollection.

Hi David, thank you for your comment on my photo.  This aircraft is on the flight deck, (ground), of the U.S.S. Midway Museum.

And the rear ramp was safely down  because it's a "walk through" exhibit.

Visitors are allowed on board it to see the interior of this little work horse helicopter.

I was airlifted off the deck of the Big E on it December 25, 1971, to another ship

for my long trip back to T.I., and discharge out of the Navy.  I'm sitting pretty much where I sat on that day.

It brought back a lot of memories.

I would like to see the one you were on if you have a photo handy.  Have you visited the type you were on since?

This is just about the same exact view I had in that DeHaviland Caribou I was in on the flight from Ton So Nhut to Vung Tau on Feb.23 1972!  EXCEPT, it was NOT on the ground and the door was NOT safely tucked up above like this one is!
