USS Point Defiance LSD-31

USS Point Defiance (LSD-31) was a Thomaston-class dock landing ship of the United States Navy. She was named for a location in Pierce County, Washington, the site of a military reservation established by the U.S. Government in 1866.

Was on USS Point Defiance LSD31 1972-74 as a HT 1 & made CPO in Yoko on her what a ship could never keep up with all the leaks .  The DCA was doing ballasting operations  and the over flow valve stuck in M Div wing tank and he put a bulge in M Div compartment about 1'  high

hey joe was wonderin if you had any luck with your claim yet?the guy from dav told me they r in decision makin process that all the info i had sent this time was quite enough didn't need any more.this was last month january 2013 will see what happens.

Served (TAD) on the Point D in 1971 - I was on the ACU1 LCM 8 boat crew - VN float late 71 into 72. Great ship and crew!

anyone havin any luck with va?they are lookin harder at my claim since i sent them more evidence,cant seem to find records needed to verify my claim,i wonder what they are havin a problem with ,think it's all political and they have to own up to the claim.

just found out from a navy vet that served on a ship that linked to point d while in nam,said our ship was put on a list of ships exposed to agent orange while off coast of nam.was done last year,dav said they are lookin at my case in a different light now.

i served on the point d 73-76 was wondering if anyone has filed with the va for compensation and been denied.steve gibson
