I was assigned to the Nimitz on the original pre-commissioning unit in 1972 and transferred on the day of commissioning. I would like to obtain a list of the crew on the day of commissioning. Also, if anyone out there was on the pre-commissioning unit please reply.

Hello John,  I was on the initial crew as well.   A 'nuc' assigned to RM division.  Was there until August of 1975 when I went to the precom crew of the Eisenhower.  This past spring I visited the Nimitz museum in Fredricksburg, Texas.  The only item from the ship was a single anchor chain link donated by the Nimitz Association a few years back.   So, I donated all my commissioning 'stuff' to the museum.   Program listing crew, family invitations, pictures, all of it.  I'm not sure where you live, but if you do visit Texas, I'd recommend visiting it, and the WWII Pacific War museum right next door.
