Arrived Pascogoula 1 April 67, traveling in dress blues, temperture up to about 100 degrees. Made it to Dubuque headquarter at 14st
and Engals Ave, The Chief Engineman had me line to share a mobile home accross the river in Gautier (Isles of Pine Mobile Home Park)Accross Highway 90 was the Bamboo Lounge,so after a long trip fromSan Diego a nice cool one was in order. When into the bar, half of the engineering dept was already, so that work out well, only problem, the dang place was "OFF LIMITS". Dale, the lady that own the place had her living quarters in the back part of the building. so when the Air Force AP"s would drive up, everyone in the bar would
run into Dale'squarters. AP's would come in the bar, look around, they would lit cigarettes in astrays, bottles and glasses half filled and the parking with alot of cars.but no customers. Later on, Lt Jordan went over to Keelser Air Force Base and talk to provost Marshall several times and finally the Bamboo Lounge back on limits.
A few sailor that was on the commissioning crew retired to Pascogoula, Back then. Pascogoula was a little sleepy town with a big shipyard. Loved it, Pascogoula was a sailor friendly town..
