Checked aboard in January of '68. AO3 in WG Div. Made the '68 WestPac and got out in December of '68. She was a fine old ship, and I enjoyed the entire tour.

I was on The "Bonnie Dick '64 -66 made the first 'nam cruise with her.

Launched 29 April 1944 NY Navy Yard(Brooklyn) sponsored by Mrs.J.S.McCain wife of Vice Adm.McCain & commissioned 26 Nov. 1944,Capt. A.O.Rule Jr. in command.Joined carrier Task Force 38 off Okinawa 6 June 1945.During June 7-10 she joined in the attacks on Okino Daito Jima & then with the 3 rd Fleet during air strikes against Japan 2 July-15 Aug 1945.My father Joseph Vena helped build this ship.He worked at the Brooklyn for 38 years before retiring.
