i was aboard the uss great sitkin ae 17,from 1965-1967.we were the first ship to re-arm @ sea with the uss america.we were on liberty in livorno itlay in 1966,and the med was very rough,as i was on shore patrol and our liberty boats were too small to back to the sitkin,i was taken aboard the america,i spent three days on her before we anchored, and could go back aboard the lost on that carrier everytime i went to chow, even wound up in the chain locker once.went up to the super-structure to watch the planes land and take off the flight deck@night,AWESOME.i was glad to get back to my ship, even though they wanted to give me a captains mast for being awol for three days,my engineering officer went to the captain and explained what happen at fleet landing and why i had to go to the carrier.something i will always remember,so far it has been 44 years.

I was onboard fron 1976-1979. I spent time in V-2 Division Arresting Gear, and as a ships Investigater.
I am looking for a V-2 Division Maintance Officer that served on any ship back arround 1972 that remembers that we used asbestos cloth in pouring sockets. If you know anyone that remembers this I need to prove it to the VA. I can be contacted at I would also like to herar from any old shipmates that remember me.
