I crossed the equator in 1971 and 1973 aboard the USS McMorris (DE-1036) going to Australia and New Zealand.

You were lucky, I was on the USS Ranger CV-61 when crossing it was 79 or 80. There were over 3000 wogs aboard and the shellbacks had their work cut out for them. Afterwards we went to Mombasa Afrcia for liberty. Talk about a let down after 129 days at sea without a break. We had to let the USS America go to Australia since no east coast ship had been there in the last few years.
