Was anybody stationed at the navy base or outlying areas involved in cryptography?

I was stationed at the naval comm station from nov 1965 to nov 1967.
Lived off base in Keflavik and then on base. Communication watch officer and crypto security officer. My daughter was born there. She's a mojenny. Saw a lot of the country over 2 yrs, enjoyed the northern lights, took advantage of R&R flights to Europe. Had a pretty decent time, but glad to be back in the USA on next tour in Norfolk va.

1970-1971 Keflavik was my 1st duty station after finishing ET "A" school and DSTE "C" school.  Great duty; everyone in Ops were encouraged to join the "Flying Club".  Weekend passes were required if you wanted to go dancing in Reykjavik (eg Loftleidir Hotel); curfew at 2200 hours at weekends, midnight on Wednesdays 'cos the liquor stores closed @ 1800hrs - everyone went to Thor's Cafe where the young women would bring vodka in their handbags to add to the soft drinks that were served.  One night a week Wednesdays) no TV in town (day off) and no TV for the month of August - holidays.  Turning antennas for local people so they could receive the base broadcasts of "I Dream of Jeanie", "Bewitched" and other stateside TV shows broadcast for us on the base.  Yes I enjoyed Iceland!

Yes, I was a plank owner. Was with FASron107 1959 until the commissioning of NAF Keflavik in 1960.  The US Army Artic Ranger were shipped out in June of that year.  Also member of IDF

Thanks, Jim. We were only there for three days and my little world as I remember it was the quonset huts. I don't even remember snow. I appreciate the pictures. I know I would have remembered the Northern Lights, though.
