"I'm not sure how to make comments on this site, but am trying to respond to Joe Wilkinson. It sounds like we were both at Bainbridge during the same era. My Radioman School time was from July 1965 to January of 1962. I was an RM3 after a kitty…"
"Hi Lloyd, I'm Frederick Smith, the Navy guy who was stationed with Doyle Barracks on board the USS Cambria in 1969-1970. Another shipmate told me that Doyle had died. I talked with Doyle on the phone maybe 6-7 years ago, as he was living in Rantoul,…"
"Hi Don, you mentioned that you were in the main area. I was wondering if you meant the main barracks? I was stationed at San Miguel from January 1966 to July 1969, 2½ years. Worked in A section of Relay the entire time. I bunked in the Quonset huts.…"
"Hi Mike, my name is Frederick Smith. I live in nearby Palmer, MA. I worked at the Springfield Newspapers from 1970 to 2010, now retired. Looking at your info you and I went into the Navy around the same time. You enlisted two weeks before me. I…"
"Hi Roger, I too went to Radioman "A" School in Bainbridge, MD from July 1965 - January 1966. From there I went directly to NAVCOMSTAPHIL in January of 1966. Stayed there for 2½ years and worked in Relay. I see that we have some similarities but I…"
"Douglas Smith was an RM3 when he left NAVCOMSTAPHIL in 1967 and went to the Annie. He may have made RM2 while on board the Annie. Doug was maybe 6 feet tall with reddish hair and freckles. He was somewhat of a naive person from Colorado. I do have a…"
"Hi Robert, I see that you live in Springfield, MA. I live in nearby Palmer. Served from 1965 to 1970 and was a Radioman 3rd class. I worked at Springfield Newspapers from 1970 to 2010, 40 years there in the Composing Room. You must know that place.…"
"Hi Paul, I live in nearby Palmer, MA. I was in your city the other day. My wife and I went to BJ's Warehouse and then to that new Mexican restaurant called the Frontera Grill. It's where PJ Scott's used to be, and is also on Memorial Drive at the…"
"Just another US Navy sailor from Massachusetts. I live in Palmer. Served from 1965-1970. Then worked at Springfield Newspapers. I knew a few co-workers from Agawam, and their names are Lance Guertin, Richard Haupt (deceased) and Carlo Imelio (sports…"
"So I guess there was more than one David Marshall at Radioman School in Bainbridge. At least you and I served in both Bainbridge and NAVCOMSTAPHIL. San Miguel has some of the fondest memories for myself and many others. I've read a website for…"
"Hi Bob, I see that you live in West Springfield. I live in nearby Palmer, MA. I see that you joined the Navy on my birthday of June 25. 1947 that is. Old retired guy here. I used to work at the Springfield Newspapers. Did 40 years there in the…"
"Thanks for the info Dave. If the reunions were nearby, I might consider going, as I do like reunions and talking with Navy guys that I knew 45 or so years ago. My only ship, the USS Cambria (APA36), has annual reunions, but so far I've not attended…"
"Hi John, my name is Frederick Smith, and I live in Palmer, MA, not far from you. My wife and I go to Mi Tierra in Hadley along Route 9 for Mexican food as often as we can. I was an RM3 in the Navy and served two enlistments. Just thought I'd say as…"
I Served with about 500 radiomen on the Annaboat, I remember some but need to be reminded of incidents to recall the person. It has bee a few years. First What division was he in, CR, CT etc. I was in CT and was also part of the Marine Relief program. Not much is known about it. I think it was just a cover for my Captain to help out a Marine friend when they lost a Radioman. Are you a brother? What was his Rate? I no longer have my books (Moved to many times). I was from Simi Valley California. Had a few friends on the ship that were from Ventura. It is quite possible I knew him, but it has been a long time. Give me some information or a picture of him from the Annaboat.
The reunions are all over the country. Year before last was in Pa., the year before that was memphis, etc. I had some ship time too; the Collett, dd730.
I was an RM. To my knowledge the CT's were all at the receiver site. I had a major run-in with those guys, but thats a long story.
I can't imagine too many of me around, but there must be some.
There is a group of us from Magoo that have a reunion most every year. Contact glscott@comcast.net with your info and see about joining us. We all stay in pretty much daily email contact too. My email is dmarshall348@yahoo.com.
I do remember the hut, believe it or not I had a bar tab there. I worked in circuit control from '63 to end of '64. I guess I was a little ahead of you.
You can call me Jim. I was in the navy twice. First time, I was in a patrol squadron, VP-6. Our home base was NAS Barbers Pt. in Hawaii. We made deployments to Adak, AK , Naha Okinawa and NS Sangley Pt. Philippines. That was from July 1965 to December 1969. On my second enlistment, I was on the Forrestal from July 1971 to July 1973. It took me a while to decide what to do in life. I wound up in the Post Office for a career. I just retired 3 years ago. Sorry I rambled on quite a bit just now. Regards, Jim
