Les, I also signed up Dec 7 1977 but I did not leave for basic until June 78. I joined as a EM but hated the school so I put in for PC. I was told it was rare to get a opeb slot that fats in PC A school and if after 2 weeks nothing came open I was to be shipped out to the fleet as a deck ape since I quit my guaranteed school. I agreed to it and about 2 days before my time was up I got the open slot, thank goodness for career counselors that work hard and care. He kept after them and it was close but I got the slot first, he had to put me in for it and I was very lucky. Just a note there is a Postal Clerk Assn if you want the address just Google it.
