Welcome aboard shipmate, May you have Fair Winds and Following Seas!
Thank you for your service.
Semper Fortis!
James thanks for the Friending....I have thought a lot about Nrrf kami since I saw your post and I dropped a line to Phil cole to see if he remembered you...I described what i thought you looked like back then. Haven't heard from him..probably in his cabin in Casper mountain, since the snow is gone. ha. Of the ET's I remember Rouso (?) ET2, I think. He woked on our R390's a lot and was in a group that had a beach house at Enoshema. Drank like a fish (Carling Black Label) I was trying to think of the ET Chief's name that got caught with Navy gear at his house and busted. I was at his place a few times in a group with him and his wife. What was the ET1's name that had the Russian wife? Nice guy. I have found it odd that You, Cole and I are the only ones that I have found on any of the Navy sites...Oh! Do you remember Albert (AJ) Mayville RM2? we were best buddies for the whole thime there and stayed in contact for several years. He stayed in and made RMC before retirement. He used to come see me in Texas when he was going across the country for a new duty station and a couple of times after he retired .I moved to Mississippi and lost contact with him for several years and then I looked him up to find out he had passed away three months before he was 51. He was kinda like a younger brother to me...(I was 1 yr and 4 days older) ha
Take care
Stay in touch....
I know it has been fifty years since i got out and my memory is shot for sure, but I don't remember your name sorry...I arrived at Kami about the time you went in and stayed till late July '63. went home RM2 with a hash mark..(kiddie cruiser and extended a year while at Kami. To answer your question about ribbons...only thing I got there was a good conduct ribbon. Phil Cole may have gotten something else as he stayed till '64 I believe. Cole came to Kami off a sub and I was off a destroyer. Greatest duty I ever had and I loved the place. Tried to extend another year so I could try to make RM!, but new Co wouldn't let me..Told me I was Navy through and through and he knew I would ship for six. I didn't..went home and went to college....Lots of second thoughts about not staying in though.
