Da Nang Air Base (1957–1975) was a Republic of Vietnam Air Force (VNAF) facility. The United States used it as a major base during the Vietnam War (1959–1975), stationing Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine units there.

  • I was stationed at Camp Tien Sha from Apr 68-Apr 69, I also remember the ammo dump blowing up, I was right there in the middle of driving an ambulance from the dispensary on Tein Sha, Was also right there when all the booze blew also, remember my first week an rocket hit an LST and 90% of the amry guys sleeping on deck never made it past there first day.

  • I was at Camp Tien Sha  Oct 66 I was attached to YR 70 worked on YFU,s alongside until Dec 66 moved over to night crew E&R ramp Mar. 67 went to Cau Viet stayed there until Oct.31.

  • I was assigned to NSA Danang (Reefer Rats) July '68 to July "69. I was TAD on the YFR 888 as the load master traveling From Chu Li to Tam My to the Cau Viet River. I recall being tied up at the deep water pier when we received incoming mortar rounds. Actually I was at the Air Force base EM club when it started. I also recall when the ARVN ammo dump was hit and there were many explosions during the night. I was also at Tien Sha when they got hit. I was in a bunker next to the barracks that got hit. I have a photo of the damage.

  • Walt McCoy,  Did you know Dale F. Glawatz and Fred B. Mooers?  I went to EM "A" School with them before we all got orders in-country Vietnam. I was assigned to the YFUs 7, 61, & 57.  I was on a YFU in the AFDL-23 alongside the YR-70 a time or two.  EM1 Leland House

  • I looked up the YFUs 7,61 and 57 looking for information on them and on one of the websites I found a picture of the YFU-7 sitting high and dry on the bank/beach somewhere and it looked like it had been mined or hit somehow and burned by fire.

  • Hi Guys, I was assigned to NSA DaNang, Literage Div, Apr 66-Apr 67. I was an EMFN on YFUs 7, 61 and 57. (Junior man kept changing boats.)  We transported cargo from Merchant ships in DaNang Harbor to Tien Sha Sand Ramp, Deep Water Piers and Red Beach.  We Back-loaded at Tien Sha Sand Ramp, T-Pier, Museum Ramp, Bridge Ramp and Red Beach and took the back-loads to Hue, Dong Ha and Chu Lai.  We took on chow from APLs 5,27 and 30.  Every so often we were given a day off and went out to the beach at the base of Monkey Mountain and had a Beer-Bust and Picnic.  What a year! 

  • Hey Guys, I was in Tan My and Hue, feb 68 to feb 69, first I was with the larcs in danang for a month, there is a facebook group nsa/nsf group that you will find a lot of security , seebees, and  literage, we have a lot  members and a reunion yearly, I have been to six and got in contact with a lot of small craft personnel,  I was on lcm 6 #14 and # 37 running perfume river ahead of the yfu's and the lcm 8 boats sweeping for mines please check the group on facebook I am sure you will find a shipmate Roger OZZIE Osborne BM3

  • We were at the ramp in Hue when charley hit us with TET. It was a mad scramble getting turned around and headed out. I was assigned to CauVet right after that. I was there when the 4 boat was brought back from being hit. A sad story.

  • I was assigned to craft master yfu62 from nov 67 nov 68, was onboard when 62 got its first mine in the cau Viet river and was in front of the 12 boat when it got hit going into the ramp at hue. CWO4 Tomlinson USN ret.
  • Was in Covered Storage security for the first six months of '67 then on the water for the next nine months; pusher boats, YTM or YTB 762 at the Deep Water piers, YFU 4 DaNang to Hue and DongHa, and pusher boats in DaNang, CauVet, and Wonder Beach.
