Da Nang Air Base (1957–1975) was a Republic of Vietnam Air Force (VNAF) facility. The United States used it as a major base during the Vietnam War (1959–1975), stationing Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marine units there.

I washed out of B&E school San Diego and got orders for NSA Da Nang. I arrived 4 July of 69. Was assigned to Camp Tien Sha and spent my year there I applied again to radioman school NTC San Diego...and got accepted. I finished RM school and was sent to NAVCOMSTA PHIL (Philippines). Two years in the PI...... both were great duty station.

I was stationed at NSA Danang from March 1971- May 1972,,,worked on the Scinco Lift on the waterfront...and drove mic 6 pusher boats adn mic 8 boats...
The YR-70 had to be towed in order to move any where the only power was the generator that powered the lights and machine shop, engine repair, electric shop and the weld shop. All of the repair crew that worked nights sleep on the top compartment, witch was built while I was there. We had a small boat repair shop tied up next to us. This picture shows the YR-70 up for auction after being decommissioned.
I worked aboard the YR-70 1966 -1967, a lot work was done aboard the YR-70 with the bunch of guys I served with.
