The Iceland Defense Force (IDF) was a military command of the United States armed forces from 1951 to 2006. The IDF, created at the request of NATO, came into existence when the United States signed an agreement to provide for the defense of Iceland, which did not, and does not, have its own unified defense force.

  • My family and I were stationed there from May 1978 to May 1980.  I was the OMD maintenance Chief and the AIMD Electronics Maintenance Chief.  I was selected for Chief Warrant Officer and was Commissioned a CWO-2 at Keflavik.  We loved our tour of duty there.  .

  • Join the IDF as a member of FASron17 in Dec 1959 until May 1961.  Served as Navy Honor Guard & the unit to provide security for ASW plant.  Took flying lessons for the Icelandic Fire Chief of the airport.   Loved the "Land of sheep s**t and lava dust"

  • My second command as an officer.  I got there in October 2003 and shut AIMD down and left there October 2004.
