The original station was commissioned on 12 April 1933 and dedicated NAS Sunnyvale after the death of Rear Admiral William A. Moffett, who is credited with the creation of the airfield, in the loss of the USS Akron on 4 April 1933. The Hangars #1, #2, and #3, and the adjacent Shenandoah Plaza are collectively designated as a National Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

    Did 2 tours at Moffett both with VP19. First was Nov 74 to June 78, Second was July 81 to Oct 84. Served with John Saldana on the second tour.

    I was stationed at NAS Moffett Field attached to COMPATWINGSPAC from Jan 1976 to Feb 1978. I worked in the ASCOMM/TSC area of the NTCC.....worked with some great people during that time......great duty station

    I was stationed at NAMTRADET Moffett Field when the base was closed.

    We were transferred to Whidbey Island, Washington.

    Arrived at Moffett in the fall of 1981, assigned to VP-91, worked out of the line shack for about 5 months, then to QA to run the library which was AFU when I took  it over

    Stationed there 76-79, was in AIMD T56 engine build up shop, met a lot of great people, Moffett was choice duty then and couldn't agree more, after my tour transfered out to HC-1 but came back in 83 to VP-19, great squadron, Lots of great times and memories, if only I could go back one more time.

    My father was stationed on the DD155 USS Cole assissting at the USS Akron dirigible crash site, he recovered Admiral Moffett's sleeping bag. The last I heard it was in the attic at my grand parents house in Pennsylvania, that was several years ago.

    I was just up in Near Moffett and they have taken off the outside covering of the hanger.  Anyone know whats going on?

    Station at  Nas Supply Department Aug 87-Jan 90.(AK3)   Loved Moffett and all the people I met there.  I feel it was probably my best duty station.  I love the P3 community-- really felt like family, I miss those days.
