  • You are right Dave, my Dad retired in 1969 and my brothers and I used to swim in that survival pool, freezing.
I retired while at NAS AIMD in 1995.
  • About Stick's comment Aug. 20, 2013, Survivial Training Area for pilots.  There sure was in 1968 and 69.  Our pilots going through VAH-123 went through SEER training which began with being "shot down", "captured" and taken to a VC compound you would swear was real.   It was staffed by Asian Americans sailors and marines.

  • Was stationed at Whidbey from '82-'86. Was assigned to AIMD Paraloft working for CPO Fitzpatrick. He was also on the USS Coral Sea CVA-43 when I was on her in'80-'82.

I posted on the VAQ 133 BLOG but didn't see a VAQ 137 Rooks BLOG,   While in VAQ 137 our squadron went on a fly the flag cruise down to Rio De Janairo Brazil and while down there for two weeks we got to watch the SST Concorde land at Rio from England every Wednesday. Watching that plane land was a sight. Ships company was restricted to the ship as there was repairs to one of the four boilers that had to be completed. Being Airwing…
