  • My last year there I fished from Deception Pass down to jetty at Fort Casey. I was working barracks MAA and had 15 days a month to fish and I did! When I went up in 02 the regs had become much stricter.

  • I remember Brad Black.  I used to fish on the inland side of Dugualla Bay, on the creek.  Planning a trip to visit, but not sure when.

  • Spent my 1st 12 yrs there VA115, (before Japan), 196, 52, AIMD 610, and 165. Still miss my 2nd home! Went back on vacation in 02 (30 yrs after I 1st was stationed their) lots of changes but still a great place to see. Drove over to the Dike Rd on Dugualla Bay with my then 12 yr old twins and sat under the FCLP pattern and watched the EA-6B's fly over.

  • I spent most of my career either attached to NAS Whidbey Island or to a squadron assigned there.  My first duty was at AIMD 1970-1974.  Next time I was there I was assigned to SAR (OPS), from 1978-1981.  Final duty station was VA-128 from 1984 to Dec. 1987 where I retired.  When I wasn't attached to NAS, I was assigned to VA-196, then VA-165.

  • I was not attached to the base. I was attached to VA-165, but I had such a very good time during that tour. I have some great memories and stories.

  • NAS Whidbey Island was my last duy station, I retired on 23 June 1995. I was in AIMD as a QAR for the Life Support Division, PR and AME's. My dad AMSC Jack E. Scherck, retired fromm VA-128 July 1969.

  • NAS Whidbey is home to the best kept secret in the Navy... VANOPDET or ELU  (although the name may have changed).  It's the best deployed sea duty that per diem can buy!

I worked with some really good people while I was there 2003-2006.

  • I was stationed there with VP-2 64-66, I waS  the hospital corpsman.  I stood most of my watches at the station hospital at the seaplane base.  I lived in base housing over by the Main base.  There was a great golf course, which I got to play again in 2002, when we were fulltiming in our RV.  Ken Mcdowell  HMC USN RET

VAQ 133 Wizards and VAQ 137 Rooks

I was in both VAQ squadrons while at NAS Whidbey from 1975-1977. I posted on the VAQ 133 BLOG but didn't see a VAQ 137 Rooks BLOG,   While in VAQ 137 our squadron went on a fly the flag cruise down to Rio De Janairo Brazil and while down there for two weeks we got to watch the SST Concorde land at Rio from England every Wednesday. Watching that plane land was a sight. Ships company was restricted to the ship as there was repairs to one of the four boilers that had to be completed. Being Airwing…
