Joined Navy 1961 retired 1981, Served on 4 ships home ported in Yokosuka,Japan. And Tugs I had the YTB 779 U.S.S. Manhatten, and dock master also. After the Navy I sailed MSC for 20 years, all TAO's and one AFS. Great life and best job I ever had. Still here in Sasebo living the good life.
i was an em2 on the great sitkin ae17(1965-1967) never thought i would get out alive,collision,fires and ships losing steering.those deck crew guys knew what they were doing and i always made sure they would never have trouble with the winches.greatest crew in the US NAVY. were on the ammo ships.
I WAS A BM1(sw) served from 78 thru 92 SERVED ONBOARD 3 DIFFERENT SHIPS SHORE DUTY AT NAS MEMPHIS. I ALSO HAVE A PATCH THAT SAYS WE AINT GOOD WE AINT GREAT BUT ONLY GOD CAN MAKE A BOATSWAINS MATE...

Regulus and Rigel are in all probability, Sister Ships.
While you Served on the Mauna Kea, I Recommissioned the Mazama AE9
The Rigel was a relatively new Ship, and I was spoiled with power Booms,
and hydraulic Hold covers.
I had a rude awakening when I reported aboard Mazama, it required backs and elbows
We never highlined a round of live ammunition, until the Cuban Blockade, and
then we all remembered seeing pictures of the Mount Hood being vaporized.
My Daughter made me aware of the AE Association, which I joined a few Years ago, however, I am more inclined to keep in touch with my Blockade Shipmates.
We shared the emanate danger of being shadowed by a Soviet Sub.

Made BM3 onboard USS Chicago-1969 thought I died and went to heaven
I served onboard the USS Haleakala AE-25 from 1967 to 1971. Could not have served with a better bunch of guys.
