  • Howdy Boomers! I transferred to VA-165 in March of '82. I was assigned to TAD AIMD Paraloft for the majority of my time with the squadron. I worked with Chuck Shaffer when I was at the squadron. When I first arrived I was part of the team that was setting up for the return of the squadron from the Connie that Richard Cox mentions and them I too was on that ill-fated Ranger cruise. We lost ten shipmates on that cruise and one of them was a personnel friend of mine whom I had partied with a number of times and was picking up his Father and a Brother to do the Tiger Cruise part of the cruise. According to the Cruise book, we lost 2 boomers on that cruise. I wonder if the kid that got blown overboard the first day of Flight-Ops was the first sailor we lost that cruise? Anyhow, it's cool to have found this site and I hope that more boomers join. I wish I was still in touch with more of my old shipmates.

  • MY BROTHER AND I WAS STATION ON THE RANGER 67-68, WE WERE IN THE 5th DIV, AT SOME TIME DURING THAT CRUISE ONE OF YOUR A6A (VA-165) WHILE LANDING THE CATCH CABLE BROKE AND THE PLANE CAME OFF THE SIDE OF THE SHIP RIGHT IN FRONT OF US, WE WATCH THE TWO PILOTS GO DOWN WITH THE PLANE, THEIR IS NOTHING IN OUR CRUISE BOOK ABOUT THIS , IF ANYONE HAS ANY KNOWLEDGE OF THIS WE WOULD APPRECIATE IT,   THANK YOU  JIM MURRAY ,AT  HEDO@FRONTIER.COM
