I had attended Molder A school back in 1972. Like you David I have been out of the loop for almost 40 years. Found out all of the A Schools there are gone and all the Tenders too. If anyone reads this comment go to Navy Molders on this site and read my blog. I'm trying to find info and History of all those schools that had been closed down at DATC, Any Information will be helpful.
I was at the base in 2005 having had the pleasure of delivering two short 20 foot containers to one of the supply ship docked at 32nd street. I was hard pressed to see where my old office was at with all the changes. Plus in this world of terrorism, they never searched my Peterbilt truck nor the empty containers I was hauling for explosives. The security guard had brought me thru a normally closed gate at the north end of the base by the bridge on Harbor Drive. Then they wheeled me right out onto the dock and parked me right between a guided missile frigate and the supply ship. I sent a letter to the base Commander about that but heard nothing back. No thank you for pointing out a breach in their security. Guess they didn't want to know.
Dave, I think you are right. Where DATC/FMAG was at 32nd street, is where Sima is now. I see some of the vets on here are Sima Sailors. Maybe one of them will know.
Did DATC/FMAGPac evolve into SIMA? Can't find any connection, but where FMAG used to be seems to be where SIMA is now. Even finding mentions of SIMAs in several places where repair facilities used to be, like Long Beach, for instance. Guess I've been out of the loop to long. Just in the last year or so I began tracing all my old Navy stomping grounds, after being "civilianized" for the past 35 years. Computers will do that to ya, looks like.
24 Dec 1973 until retirement in October of 1975. Shop 38C, outside machine shop, shop planner and shop admin supervisor, an excellant way of ending a career trying to keep some of those WWII warships afloat and steaming.

Plus they need to get rid of the photo of the front gate of NTC. That is NOT where DATC/FMAGPAC was. It was at 32nd street!
