The purpose of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is to ensure that such people are available to the nation as shipboard officers and as leaders in the transportation field who will meet the challenges of the present and the future.

    I went to the Merchant Marine Academy for Informational Technician School. It was from May 16 - 27, 2005. It was nice to be up in New York.

    I was stationed here, March 1979 through March 1982, in the Naval Science Department. No doubt, it was the best duty station I had in the 22 years I was in the Navy. Two young Midshipmen I was privilaged to know, while stationed there, are now Admirals. I also have a number of the Midshipmen who are still friends to this day.
