I did a Med. Cruise as a Corpsman with 3rd Marine Corps Division from Camp LeJeune in 1971. The ship was reconstructed and recommissioned as a different type of ship. Looking for both Navy and Marine Corps buddies who served with me.

  • I was on the ship the same time frame as Edwin Sanjurjo. I did the same tour that he did but I was an Operations Specialist 3rd class at the time. I had a lot of fun doing the many deployments to the west coast of the US and Canada to include Alaska. I also made the same 10 month cruise to the middle east and received my Shellback while going to the 5th fleet.

  • Radio 1986 - 1989. Homeport shift from Norfolk, VA to Honolulu, HI. We were the first to embark COMTHIRDFLT afloat, but Radio never got manned for hosting a Numbered Fleet Commander. Fun times but lots of work and a ton of different watchbill while inport HI. We also pulled a 10 month deployment in 1988 to Bahrain with CJTFME embarked to allow the Great White Ghost USS LASALLE to go into the yard in Japan. Great ship - learned my rate inside and out onboard. GREAT CREW!
