  • I went YN A school in Bainbridge when the Wave's still had a boot camp there too.

They were off-limits until they finished, but that didn't stop some of guys in my barracks from sneaking out with them.

I graduated A school the day that JFK was shot in Dallas.  Four of us left the base an hour before they closed it down.  We didn't hear about it until outside NYC (car's radio didn't work).  We turned on a portable radio for the traffic report & found out then.

  • Briefly, became a Yeoman (like my dad who was a retired YNC) in the fall

of 1969 (when YN A-School was in San Diego, CA).

I was promoted to YN1 in July of 1978.

When I went aboard my last ship (the USS ELLIOT (DD-967)), I learned

that "YN1's and XO's" run the ship.

After a 22-year career, I retired the medical way in December 1986 (at present,

due to my service-connected ailments, my HMO is the VA medical system

    in San Diego, CA).

Take care and God bless shipmates,, and,, "Welcome Home!"

  • Retired YN1

  • you need to step down sorenson. you are so pathetic.
  • Michael Kusuplos: this guy knew where it was at. What was not in his time was the reduction in personnel. When I was a junior YN, yes I learned a lot of stuff in standing all kinds of watches then they cut our manning. Then I had one to no one in the office when i went to stand a watch.
  • YOU SUCK SORENSON.
  • Sorenson! I knew your ass....You sucked.
  • Sorenson! stand tall and say something!
  • I loved standing bridge watches if i knew my shop was in good hands. It never was. When I was on watch and all hell broke loose it was my fault.
  • The CTA conversion and a lot of under the table billeting killed my career.
I was the Ship's Secretary but I had a CTA convert who could barely spell her own name in charge of me.
