Any Navy Veteran who served from 2-Sept.-1945 to 26-Dec-1991, prevented World War III for 46 years. We must never forget those who did pay the Ultimate price with their lives. USS Scorpion SSN-589, and many others. I Salute your Bravery.....

  • Al,

Asking about vet status is also one way to determine how old you are. Age discrimination is alive and well in the US. These questions should be post hire. I have a little over 30 years exp in HR.......
  • I agree but the congress and U.S. citizen forget Iran, Beruit, Libya, Grenada, N.Korea, Panama, all of which I considered acts of War because we lost brothers to foreign arms and RONNIES politics!!!
  • That's what I selected, but I thought the choices could have been better defined
  • Al, veteran other covered gives you your status.
  • I would to know what you would select. I recently applied for a position through a company website that asked about veteran status. These were the choices;
    Non-Veteran
    Vietnam Era Veteran
    Other Covered Veteran
    Newly Separated Veteran
I choose not to disclose this information at this time

As a job seeker who volunteered to serve his or her country between the Vietnam War and Dessert Storm, how do you answer that? I'm at a loss and feel that their HR department needs to re-evaluate their application forms or process. What do you think?
  • I've joined the VFW (life member) and SubVets. Thinking about American Legion. I'll admit I see the AMVETs doing a lot more in the community than the VFW and AL. I haven't been here long so probably not fair to pass judgement on them completely. The Legion has the Legion Riders which interest me. I'd like to learn to ride and participate in those type activities with them. But membership in as many as you can afford is important in the power of Vets and capitol hill. When the Vet groups boast big numbers of members it adds clout to what they are trying to achieve. As many as we having coming back from the Afgan/Iraq theatre they are going to need our support more than ever to make sure these guys are not forgotten. Cut the money somewhere else and protect our Vet programs.
  • Mr Nelson,
I've been to several VA hospitals around the country and for the most part, they are very nice. Portland, Oregon with Oregon Health and Sciences University situated next door with a same sort of set up like Minneapolis VA hospital.. makes that hospital top notch as well. For the most part I get wonderful care from the VA and thank God that I have at least that!
  • I guess it is the area and what is available to the vet. I am a volunteer driver to the Va hospital in Mpls, MN and I have driven women vets up to the VA from WWII to Afgan & Iraq . They are well pleased with the care, our Hospital is fairly new and the U of M sends doctors and interns to the clinic.
  • Mr Najjar,
lol I get the looks at the VA hospitals still yet. Here where I live I have met only one other woman vet who was considerably older than I am. I don't get it.. where are the women? I mean we've been around and will be around forever.. aren't the women using the VA hospitals and other services available to them?
  • LOVED WATCHING F-14 TAKE OFF TO LET THE BEAR KNOW HE WAS WAY TO CLOSE TO MAMA NIMITZ. AND LORD DID THE LOVE DIRTY SKIVIES IN THE GARBAGE.

On April 28. 2015 Congressman Steve Israel(D NY-3); as he has for the last several years, along with Congressman David Jolly (R-FL 13) and seven other cosponsors introduce H.R. 2067 The Cold War Service Medal Act 2015.
