  • OK Bill. I am in. I served in the USN from 1958-62 and the USNR from 1970-78. I was stationed at NAS Norfolk, NAVSTA Guantanamo Bay and with VP64 in Willow Grove, PA. As you know, I am active in the Guantanamo Bay Association and this year's reunion is in Branson, MO.
  • Served from 1959 to 1961 aboard the USS Rigel AF58.
    Recommissioning Crew USS Mazama AE9, 1961 to 1963.
    Our worst experience was being shadowed by a Foxtrot Class Soviet
    Submarine during the Cuban Quarantine, October 1962.
    Even their periscope looked menacing.
  • I put a picture of the Cold War Certificate on my page. Go to my photos and check it out. Everyone should have gotten one in the mail, if not see your local VA rep. Congress is still working on authorizing the medal.
  • In from July '83 to March '93. Spent two years in Mayport, four years in GTMO and three years at Instructor Duty at GLAKES.
  • In from November 1984 to April 1995. Stationed on four Destroyer tenders.Stationed on west coast,east coast. Made 1 Westpac, and 3 Med.cruises. Saw the world at a young age.
  • I think that this is a deserving "Command" and I am happy to join it. I have been lucky enough to have spent over 30 years serving and yet have never been in combat. The closest I ever came was a Russian torpedo singing past our starboard site while we were watching their Navy manuevers. We never knew if they were actually firing at us or if we were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Cold War Service Medal-2015

On April 28. 2015 Congressman Steve Israel(D NY-3); as he has for the last several years, along with Congressman David Jolly (R-FL 13) and seven other cosponsors introduce H.R. 2067 The Cold War Service Medal Act 2015. This bill would authorize DoD to issue the Cold War Service Medal to those who served between Sep 1945 and Dec 1991.This bill has been sent to the House Armed Services Committee for consideration.
