  • I sang Bass with the Bluejacket Choir Apr-Aug '61 while in boot camp. Sang at Chicago's Grant Park and a couple of Chicago churches. E. D. Sandager was the director.

  • I sang with the Bluejacket Choir from July '63 - Nov '64. Missed going "home" to South Bend IN for the Irish-Navy game. Carl Sandager was director then. He apologized for not including me on that trip.
Highlighting my choir experiences was singing at a Chicago TV station the afternoon President Kennedy was assassinated. I will never forget that awesome day.
  • Sang with them in boot camp in 64.  Director was Ed Sandager.  Really enjoyed it.

  • Sang with them around Easter in 1970 at boot camp. Great experience, will never forget it.

  • Hello, I am CWO4 Carl Wade USNR Ret. I was a FTCS before I was commissioned.  I sang with the Navy Bluejacket Choir in 1961 and 1962 while in FT schools at Great Lakes, IL.  E. D. Sandager was the director and Chief Personnelman Oliver Reardon accompanied on piano.  It would be great to get a CD of the old choir singing.  Is there a choir presently singing there?

Good morning!  My name is Herb Harfst.  I sang in the choir while in boot camp and EM "A" school at Great Lakes, March through August, 1957  It was a wonderful "getaway" from the drudgery of both!  I even got out of "service week" because the choir flew to Dallas, Texas.  I though I would never forget, but can someone remind me what the choir director's name was?  I got out of the Navy after my 4x6 but rejoined the reserves 17 years later and retired as a Chief Boatswain's Mate in 1998

  • Shipmates:  Better late than never.  Just noticed this group and proud to join.  Membership in the choir during boot camp, Sep 61-Nov 61.  Thanks.  djp...out

Blue Jacket Choir

I was with the Choir at Great Lakes Recruit Training Center February to May 1971 (back when we still had Camp Moffett active :~} ). We traveled to Evenston, Illinois to perform on TV. I wanted to keep performing but had contracted as a Corpsman and went to "A" school in Great Lakes. Had to switch to the Corps School Choir to keep performing.

Hey Mates,

Sang with the Great Lakes BJC during Boot Camp, through Hosptal Corps School and Operating Room Tech School from 1959 into early 1961. Earl Sandager, a civilian, was the Director. Many memories of performances on Sunday mornings as well as trips taken.  Jim Licquia, HM3 Hon. Discharged.
