  • Served as the Mazy's postal clerk (PC-2) from November 1968 til Janary 1970.  Made the ,69 WestPac.

     

  • Served on the Mazama from the fall of 61 at Sun Ship until Feb. 1963,
    participated in the Cuba Blockade, I was a 2nd Class Shipfitter/Pipe in R Div.. Sure had some rusty old pipes. I served as Master at Arms for my last few months aboard.
  • I reported to the Mazama while She was in dry dock at the Sun Ship Yards, Chester, Pennsylvania in the Fall of 1961, prior to Her being Recommissioned.
    We operated out of Mayport, Florida, and took part in the Blockade of Cuba.
    I served as a BM3 in the 2nd Division, and left the Ship in April, 1963.
  • was on the mighty mazy 1963-1965 made the med cruise in 64 and left for A school in 65
  • Was on the Mazama AE-9 frm 12/27/62 to 12/21/66---made the round the world cruise -via Veit Nam-- crossed the equator and became a shellback---was discharged upon arrival at Davisville 12-21-66--we worked hard but we played hard too---
  • Served on the Mazama AE-9 in M-Div from Oct 1965 to Aug 1967. Made a world cruise in 1966, Panama Canal, Equator,Suez Canal, Straits of Gibraltar....

U.S.S. MAZAMA AE-9

Ralph Hann, March 23, 2010 at 4:45 p.m.I went aboard the Mazama in Mare Island, CA  August 1944 and assigned to the First Division. We served in the South Pacific as part of the 7th. Fleet under Admiral Bill Halsey. We took part in the Battle of Leyte Golf, October 1944. On January 12, 1945 we were torpedoed by a Japanese Kamikaze Submarine. After repairs in Guam we headed back to the USA stopping at Pearl Harbor and then to the shipyards in San Francisco, CA. for major repairs. I left the ship…

I served on the USS Mazama from the commisioning in 1962 through January of 1965 when I was dischared. Had the pleasure of having pUL a our BM3 in division 2. I will never forget all the shipmates we had and all of the ports and fun we had. Thank you all!!!Mike Clukey BM3
