  • I remember being stationed at NAB as a corpsman in 1974.  Worked in all areas of the dispensary and stood watch pulling ambulance duty. Drove the old white and orange Pontiac ambulances that looked like hearses. I was stationed at Balboa and asked to be transferred off the wards and lucked up on NAB.

  • Received orders to ACB-1 out of boot camp and spent most of 67 in Coronado. Life member of Seabee Veterans of America and used to be a member of Vietnam Era Seabees. We Build, We Fight, well it seemed the blue stripers did the building and we BM white stripers did the fighting! LOL

I do make a monthly trip to Coronado to work on the Vietnam Memorial display on base, and it brings back memories just to be there: http://www.vummf.org/ Last year I took a tour of present day ACB-1, and it sure has changed.

Keep those photos and memories coming. Wish I had taken some photos during my era.

It has been said that behind any successful man there is always a woman. I don't know how much truth there is in that. But I do know that in the case of the Seabees there are family member's who have supported their husbands/wives while in the Seabees, but also joined the efforts to keep the spirit of the Seabees strong and alive. That is the Navy Seabee Veterans of America Auxiliary. Throughout the years of it's existence. The Navy S.V.A.A. has supported the work of the Navy S.V.A., and has worked hand in hand with the members in supporting the many functions of the Navy S.V.A. One of the many ways helping, is the "Seabee Memorial Scholarship Association"[SMSA] and the "CEC/Seabee Historical Foundation", Along with other charitable causes within limitations of available funds.
If you have any questions about signing up as a member of the auxiliary or starting one in your island please contact any of the officers listed above!

Naval Amphibious Base (NAB), Coronado

Provides a shore base for the operations, training, and support of naval amphibious units on the West Coast. It is one of only two Navy amphibious training bases in the United States. NAB is approximately 1,000 acres (4 km²) in size and is composed of the Main Base, training beaches,20245_102596339769594_100000576864064_76298_557316_n.jpgNablogo3.GIF.gif
