  • Rob Sitze----Was standing top-watch on a destroyer when the sta-side fireman did that! We had just got a bell for 2/3 ahead when this happened and it scared the shit out of me when I heard the noise & saw that boiler front :breathe"! Told him if he ever did that again I would put my foot so far up his ass we would both have to go to the hospital to have it extracted!

  • As I remember the CENG had sprayer plates for JP-5 as well as over load plates in cause of war time,I never burned NSFO and was glad not to, that stuff was nasty!

nsfo sucked f-76 was pretty good burning jp-5 you could burn but superheater temps woud be higher and it did burn cleaner but was expensive to burn in a boiler and we made ourown overloads on the coral sea drilled out some 11s and made 9s for full power runs and wartimeuse. Steaming an m-type with no abc"s was a real challenge but it made the watch go by fast.
