  • Welcome BTC Urban.  The Coffee is on.

  • Chief Petty Officer William (Bill) Urban Oct 1972 to Oct 1992

  • Hello fellow Snipes,

Thought it was about time to seek out fellow vets.

I served  on the USS Ranger from Dec. 1973 to June 1977.  Managed to make BT2 before leaving the Navy.  I was assigned to P2 Division, 2MMR and was qualified through Control Board Operator.  I was also the P2 Division DCPO in 1976.  I left the Navy at the end of June 1977 with "The Boat" up on blocks in Bremerton, Washington.

  • bt3 on the uss blue ridge lcc-19 (newly commissioned), from nov. 1970 to aug. 1974. first cruise from philly, around south america to san diego. 2 foster wheeler  600 pounders. since i was one of the smaller bts - always had to remove internals and punch tubes. fuel was changed from bunker c to navy ditillate in '72 i believe. i have to admit - you could eat off the deck plates the fireroom was so clean. i painted the emergency feed pump with a stars and stripes theme. bt1 hartman put a "huge" budwiser poster on the front of the d.a. tank upper level. acc console looked sharp. steamed with a bunch of great snipes!  still steaming at 42 - makes her one of the oldest steam driven u.s. naval ships.

  • Rob Sitze. Al Larivee BT/3 from Selma. I forgot about us trying to meet up when i had my V.A.Doctirs appointment on 15 January.  As i age I'm sure I'll be at the V.A.Hospital again soon. Can you e-mail me? brassmonkey1944@yahoo.com.

sprayer plates

nsfo sucked f-76 was pretty good burning jp-5 you could burn but superheater temps woud be higher and it did burn cleaner but was expensive to burn in a boiler and we made ourown overloads on the coral sea drilled out some 11s and made 9s for full power runs and wartimeuse. Steaming an m-type with no abc"s was a real challenge but it made the watch go by fast.
