  • Dan I remember that mudslide.  I can't remember if it was in '69 or '70.  But I believe it was the result of a Typhoon that hit our area back then, soaking the area with water and causing those mudslides.  It was a sad and tragic event in which people died.  We received casualties from that storm up at the hospital.  The attached photo was taken by me from the shuttle bus that ran back and forth between the hospital and main gate.  The damaged structure may have been a workshop near the airfield.3439410836?profile=original

  • There was a P-3 that was lost at sea shortly after I was stationed there in '79,not sure if they found it,seemed like the sky was teaming with them then.I remember the first jet from the incoming carrier use to "Buzz" Olongapo when they first arrived, some so low blew tin off some roofs, but the locals did not care, they just raised the beer prices.

  • I remember a P-3, one that transferred from Sangley pt., that crashed in the bay about a minute after takeoff. Someone serviced an engine with some kind of solvent instead of oil. That was in "71 I think. I ran the AME shop at the paraloft. We mostly serviced squadrons with LOX, but did some AIMD maintenance.

Subic Bay Naval Base - Revisited
  • I am looking for anyone stationed at Cubi or Subic that remembers the mudslide that buried the Operations Buildings at Cubi Point in 1970 or maybe 1969. Also the F-4 that flamed out and crashed on the mountain below the O club. I was in V4 fuels.

  • I have a couple pics from my husband and my time in Subic, will post them soon.

  • The official date of closure was Nov 24 1992,but the base never recovered after the volcano blew in 1991.3439410650?profile=original

  • I have to openly admit that I have never missed any place I have been like I do the Philippines and especially Subic Bay. My plans are to take the money from my VA disability award and go back. If I think I can return there and survive, well I am gone. I served two tours stationed in Subic Bay plus numerous port calls during my 15 1/2 years in the Navy. If I make it there I would like to meet Kevin and any others who have taken up residence there.

Subic/Olongapo 1990-91

I'm doing some research and would appreciate feedback from those who were station dito at Cubi or SRF in 1990-91. Personally, I was there in the early 80's so much of my recollection is irrelevant for what I am looking for.  1. Bars and hotelsWhat memorable bars and hotels were around at that time? I remember a few from my time, but I'm sure they were long gone. 2. The JungleWas this still a thing in 90-91? Anyone remember bars from there? 3. SR FenceWhen did the fencing go up on the bridge…

What is in Subic and Angeles now.

I am living in Angeles City and have lived here for about 7 years. There have been many many changes BUT... It's still the same Philippines.Have not been down to Olongapo for about a year. The base is still recognizable as a former U.S. Base but it has been its all commercial now.I even have a friend of mine on the base. He is Japanese American and he runs a company making solenoids. There is almost nothing in Olongapo proper that is fun entertainment wise.Barrio Barretto still has many bars,…
