NAS Willow Grove Weather

Latest Willow Grove Nas Jrb, Pennsylvania, weather

I was attached to NAS Willow Grove (affectionately nicknamed Willy's Grave), from Nov. 77 until May of 81. I was proud to be a part of the team that prepared the plane above to be included in the static display along the front fence line of the base. I was attached to AIMD Ground Support Detachment. I also worked evenings at the Auto Hobby Shop when it was open. This was a great duty station and I hope that we can find many others that were assigned here also.

  • Attached to VP-64 from May 1971 to March 1975. During that time period we had civilians attached to our squadron, and one in the AE shop named Harry. Don't recall his last name, but often wonder whatever happened to Harry and the other AE's from that time period. Shop supervisor was Cliff Beardlsy.

  • Acoustic instructor at ReASWTac '78-80. I was there when it became ResASWTraCen. Section leader for NAS. Enjoyed tha base immensely.

  • Served in the RESERVE ASW Tactical Training School 1972-76.

  • I worked at Station Weapons from 1992 to 1995.
  • It's great to meet you Michael. We don't get to hear from too many people yet that were stationed at Willy's Grave. It sure was great duty and holds tons of great memories as well as some bad ones. Thanks for posting and I hope that we hear more from you.
    Any special memories of the local area from your tour their Michael? We'd love to hear about them.

  • I was stationed at the Grove (YN1 in Reserve Programs Dept) from August 1987 - October 1990 when I retired.
  • Hi John;
    We were there at the same time. I was there from mid 77 until mid 81. I left Willow Grove and went to South Weymouth, MA. It sure wasn't much of a change sicne they are both so much alike. But I really loved my time in WG. Some great memories for sure. One of my closest friends was with VP-64. You might remember Paul Lancaster. An AW2. He loved it there too and we both ended up in So. Weymouth together too..LOL. That was a blast. It's reallt too bad that WG is closing. That place is LOADED with local history as well as some great military history. I'll have to look into it more and see if i can learn more about it. I was always amazed about the Pitcairn Field history. It's great to hear from you.

  • Dan, Thanks for responding. I really enjoyed my time in VP64. It is a shame that Willow Grove is closing.
  • Hi John;
    Sorry so much for the late response, somehow I didn't even see that it was here. My fault I'm sure. I'm in teh Northwest Arkansas area now about 4 hours from Brandon. That's so great to hear that you've kept up your involvement. I can imagine that you have great times going over old times. It's great to hear from you and I hope I don't miss the next message.

  • Thanks Dan. I now live in Mount Wolf, PA, which is in York County on the west bank of the Susquehanna River. I am active in the Guantanamo Bay Association, which has a reunion every year. We have held them in Chatanooga, Cincinnatti, Saint Augustine & Gettysburg and this year will be in Branson, MO.

    Where do you live now?

AIRBETDIV, NARETU

I transfered to Airbetdiv in 1962 from NAS Lakehurst.  Command was redesignated as NARETU and the new school was built.  I and Jim Meager and Jim Feeley engineered to have the liquor store put in as part of the CPO Club.  I taught at the electronic warfare school and managed the club.  Alex Lipiec, AD1 was assistant manager.

Memorial in front of admin building

I was stationed at Willow Grove from 66 to 69 and then transfered to Quonset Point. My father was atationed at Willow grove for 14 years and retired there in 63So I was around the base for a good part of my life.There is a memorial in front of the Adminastration Building for the crew of a P2V that crashed in the mountains of Italy. My dad knew all of the crew and I knew some of them also since it was a close knit group and we spent a lot of time growing up with their families.My worry is what…
