  • Hey all I have an ongoing PTSD claim and I am looking for anyone who was stationed on TI during 1978-79. This message is especially for Paul Hosse because you were there and remember the guy that tried to kill himself. I need for someone to write a statement for me acknowledging that this did happen. Paul I believe that you had alot to do with this guy and outprocessing him. I really need you to get in touch with me. Thanks, I also appreciate any help from anyone else that might know something. God Bless

  • I was on Treasure Island for Radarman Class A School from about September 1957 too March 1958. Transferred to USS Taussig DD746 from school. Went on Taussig as SN transferred off as RD2. Those were great days.3439435457?profile=original

  • I was stationed there for ETA School in 1968. I was at the transit barracks after graduation and waiting for my orders to Naval Guided Missile School in Dam Neck VA. Those barracks were really bad as you had sailors coming in from the fleet, some mustering out, and some waiting for orders someplace where else. A real mixed environment. Watch Your Back! Liberty was great as we only had to muster and do some cleaning fora few hours M-F.

  • I was only at TI for a week [Oct 05-12, 1971], for separations; Was leaving the Nam with a 11-month early out. Was shocked and glad to see the beer machines!

  • No. None of the racks were double at TI. All single; about 6 in a row; each with a locker at the head of the bed. The "head" was at the end of the hall. And talk about noisy! People coming in and out at all hours and slamming their lockers; getting up and going or getting back or just folks setting around talking and smoking. Glad I was upstairs where it was a little quieter. We had partision with one single bunk and locker. A total of 12 per floor with a "head' at the end of hall.

  • NEITHER DO I. THE BARRACKS AT KEYPORT WASHINGTON WERE SINGLES ALSO. I SHOULD HAVE REMEMBERED THAT.

  • The only difference between the racks in that transient barracks and boot camp barracks was in boot they were all doubles, I do not recall any doubles at TI.

  • I CAN RELATE TO YOUR EXPERIENCE CHIEF.  WAS A VERY STRANGE EXPERIENCE AS I WAS WAITING FOR TRANSFER TO THE PI, REMEMBER THE BARRACKS AND HOW "HOLLOW," IT REPRESENTED WITH THE RACKS AND FEW PERSONNEL.. WHILE VISITING MY SON WHEN HE WAS STATIONED AT ALAMEDA COAST GUARD STATION, WE DROVE THRU TI AND I SHARED MY EXPERIENCE WITH HIM. MANY YEARS HAVE GONE BY. :)

  • That could very well be.

  • Hey Lindsey, you were there when I was there. I was in Personnel. Most likely checked you in and check you out.

Treasure Island Beer Machines

I was processed out of the Navy there in Jan 1972.  Stayed in a transit barracks for a week or so while waiting to be discharged.  When I first arrived I kind of just hung around base a day or so until I joined a few guys who were cool and we went downtown SF looking for hippie chicks.  But one evening while staying on base I wandered into the barracks lounge to watch TV or something.  And to my surprise I saw a beer dispensing machine in there.  I couldn't believe it.  A beer machine in a…
