  • While I was at T.I. teaching ET-A school in the late 60's I also worked part time at the auto hobby shop in the evening. Everybody knew me as " Mac" . I drove an orange 57 Chevy hardtop. The shop manager was a retired MMC, and I don't remember his name. We just called him chief. I have some good memories of my tour at T.I.

  •   I was stationed at T.I. for a period of 2 years and I met the love of my life there! working as a lowley HM3 at the Dispensary, always thought that the Island was a magical placeto be stationed.except for the earthquakes. lookink out everyday towards SanFrancisco and seeing Alcatraz between us and SanFraciscio was Beautifull! olny bad part was the Brig.felt sorry for prisoners.

  • When were you on TI Gordan? I was in Personnel too. Where were you assigned? Do you remember any of the other people in Personnel at the time?

  • Was assigned to the Personel Support Detachment on TI. Retired from this assignment June 1982

  • I WISH I HAD APPRECIATED THAT VIEW MORE. THE BARRACKS WAS AWFUL
  • I spent a number of months there in 1959 going to Radar A school and playing in the Schools Command Band. I remember we used to play for a drill team there that used to do all of their drills is half time.......fantastic group but kind of weird to watch until you got used to them. Had a great time at TI and was sorry to see it go. Always thought it was a great base and the view was fantastic.

  • I recall that "somehow" Chief Moffett tried to stay in Subic Bay as much as possible. After leaving TI, that was where he wanted to return. There were several other chiefs I worked with, but I sure can't remember their names!

  • Paul - I didn't know Chief Moffett. We weren't there a lot except to sleep and eat breakfast.

Ann - I don't recall meeting Louise Sparkman. Like I said, we weren't around to meet many who were stationed there. Just being there 2 weeks at a time and most of the time was at the Oakland Army Base for schools.

After they closed TI, we spent our sleepy time over at Alameda.

  • Was there in 1960 waiting transportation to Key Port Washington, was back in 1962 to transfer to PI. Mustered out there. Remember how cold it seemed coming from Nam.

Have a son stationed at Alameda Coast Guard Station who inspects the station on TI.

Treasure Island Beer Machines

I was processed out of the Navy there in Jan 1972.  Stayed in a transit barracks for a week or so while waiting to be discharged.  When I first arrived I kind of just hung around base a day or so until I joined a few guys who were cool and we went downtown SF looking for hippie chicks.  But one evening while staying on base I wandered into the barracks lounge to watch TV or something.  And to my surprise I saw a beer dispensing machine in there.  I couldn't believe it.  A beer machine in a…
