  • Hey everyone! Glad to be aboard. I was stationed at TI from March 1978 through May 1979. I was a PN. Anyone remember Chief Moffett?
  • Attended and graduated Cargo-Weapons Elevater maint. NEC 4296
  • BMC Tom Wallin USN Ret. over my 20+ years FFT TI many time on my orders last time 65 to Vietam.
  • I was stationed on T.I. from 90-93 and lived in the newer base housing for 2 of those years. So many people complained about being there but never "stopped to smell the roses." Can you please tell me... where else can you live with a view of the Oakland Bay Bridge, The Golden Gate Bridge, the entire city of San Francisco layed out in front of you, hear the fog horns at night, and not have to pay a ransom for it?! All of this city stuff at your fingertips 24 hours a day and people still complained! And you didn't have to put up with the crime of the city. I know, I was a gate guard! My ex was also stationed onboard the USS Roark FF1053. Treasure Island was a great base. I miss it. FYI....if you go to flickr.com and enter the name....many great pictures come up!
  • I enlisted in the summer of 63 in Honolulu, Hawaii and spent 18 days living in the Armed Forces YMCA until they had enough recruits to ship out. They flew us to Treasure Island FFT to Boot Camp in San Diego. Problem was San Diego was closed due to an outbreak of Spinal Meningitis. We were held at Treasure Island for a week before they sent us to Great Lakes. They issued us Liberty Cards and Chow passes but we had no uniforms or ID cards so we couldn't get off the base. By the time we got to Great Lakes I had been on active duty for a month. So I ended up on the East Coast riding Tin Cans out of Mayport.
  • Spent many days on TI. First as a reserve attending drills in one of the big hangers, later at the Radioman School and several times in transit. About froze to death in those drafty old barracks when I returned from two years at NAS Cubi Point. Many good memories from my time on TI.
  • I discharged from here and the US NAVY 1988.
  • I was a disabled Veteran in 1983. In 1984-85 I worked at NTCC Treasure Island. That was a beautiful place to work as a civilian with Navy co-workers. I got my remote information exchange certificate there. It is a shame and a sham that it was closed down. I feel very unprotected here in the Bay Area.
  • I went to DC "A" school there in the early "90s. Loved to go through the burn bildings again. I really miss the skyline view
  • This was my first duty station in the Navy. I look back on it and it was a nice duty station. I was the Transiet Postal Clerk, very easy duty and a great city to see. I had a view of the Golden Gate Bridge out of my room window. Something to write about being a guy from a small country town in Indiana.

Treasure Island Beer Machines

I was processed out of the Navy there in Jan 1972.  Stayed in a transit barracks for a week or so while waiting to be discharged.  When I first arrived I kind of just hung around base a day or so until I joined a few guys who were cool and we went downtown SF looking for hippie chicks.  But one evening while staying on base I wandered into the barracks lounge to watch TV or something.  And to my surprise I saw a beer dispensing machine in there.  I couldn't believe it.  A beer machine in a…
