  I crossed the equator twice while in USS Boston (CAG-1).  Pollywog in 1967 and Shellback in 1968. I was a W-1 in 67 and a CWO-2 in 68.  My Master Chief GM Charlie Harkness was the Royal Baby both times.  Huge hairy belly on one of the finest sailors I ever met.

  I almost didn't participate, but at the last minute, I did.  Great experience, no fresh water showers only salt water.  I did get to cross a few more times and help initiate more lowly wogs,Bon Homme 2 times, Enterprise 1, Ranger 1, and Connie 1.  Seeing it from both sides was the only way to do it.

  Crossed the line in '78 aboard the USS Hector (AR-7) on the way to Tahiti.

  I became a Shellbacker while a member of ships crew in the Air Department of the USS Coral Sea CVA-43 in 1969 on the way to Australia . I spent my entire enlistment on the Coral Sea in V-3 Division [hanger-bay] and was on Yankee Station for 3.25 tours during my time on-board 1968 to 1972

  Hi,Terry Eccleston....I crossed the line in 59 as a TMSN...Later,I re  enlisted & got shipped off to SH$$ CITY to another tin can and sailed right into the CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS.Didn't stay for 20,and hind-sight is STILL kicking me in the A$$.Anyway,I became a GM(G)3/C,and was a mount captain on a 3".50Cal (twin) A A mount and it was a BLAST!

  Crossed the line on October 2, 1977 on the USS Lasalle (AGF-3) on our way to the beautiful island of Mahe of the Seychelles and Mombasa, Kenya. What a long day since most of the crew was WOGS. When your 1 yr tour was up on the Lasalle you flew you off where ever the ship was. One year later l was left in the Seychelles for 5 days, before the next flight back to the states. What a paradise it was. We had a great time there.

  Crossed over in 07/1969 onboard the USS Enterprise CVAN 65.

  Couldn't believe the Navy did such crazy stuff... I loved it! 

  Got a magic marker an made drawings & sayings on my t-shirt that earned me a even more punishing initiation.

  Cross the Line 1990 I think on the USS Ranger CV-61 was an AKAN imagine half the population of the carrier are wogs.  It was a great tradition to go through but did not get a chance to do my Shellback duties after that.
